ISMETA’s vision is to transform the world and ourselves through conscious movement. Through our organizational partnerships and involvement in international conferences and symposiums, we see the innovative contributions that somatic professionals are making in healthcare, education and social justice. ISMETA is excited to provide an opportunity through this conference for us all to share our experience, strength and wisdom in these three areas.

This conference will focus on ways somatic practitioners use conscious movement to help people enhance their functioning and body-mind integration in healthcare settings, in schools, and in communities. In particular, the conference wishes to highlight innovative strategies, novel applications, and overlooked populations when considering how somatic movement is evolving across boundaries and cultures to deepen our understanding and experience of embodiment.

We invite proposals that highlight practical applications for specific populations in healthcare, education and social justice. Please consider submitting a proposal for an experiential session, panel discussion, current research presentation, and/or curriculum design workshop. Special attention will be given to new somatic approaches, applications and entry points.
Length of presentation: All presentations are 75 Minutes in length

Only one abstract submission permitted per person as primary author. You may be a secondary presenter on another presentations. The abstract must address the conference theme.

We will be evaluating proposals based on questions such as:
  1. Does the proposal effectively demonstrate a practical somatic approach to one of the areas of conference focus, and how it can be applied?
  2. Does the proposal show a logical progression and organization emerging from a clear question, concern, or issue?
  3. Does the proposal address the needs of a particular population?
  4. Is there a clear connection to somatic movement practices i.e.: postural and movement evaluation; experiential anatomy; movement patterning, refining perceptual, kinesthetic and proprioceptive sensitivity, support of homeostasis, co-regulation and/or neuro-plasticity?
For each abstract you submit, you must be both the primary author and the presenter.

Upon acceptance:
If your proposal is selected you will be asked to commit to your involvement in the conference by April 15, 2020. If we do not hear from you, your place will be forfeited to the next person on the waiting list. Presenters must submit an updated abstract, bio, and all applicable forms by May 30, 2020 for placement in the Abstract Book/schedule/online.

All presenters must be current ISMETA Members at the time of the conference. Those new to ISMETA will be asked at time of registration for conference to become ISMETA members.

The Program Committee cannot honor requests to schedule a presentation on a specific day. Presenters are asked to attend the entire Conference (at the reduced Presenter Registration Fee) and to be available to participate in other conference activities.
