Rolfing® is a method of structural integration known for delivering meaningful transformations in people's lives. In the context of children and adolescents, its application through movement-based sessions has shown promising outcomes, particularly when addressing current concerns such as anxiety, attention difficulties, and social phobia.
In Brazil, we have been refining the traditional Rolfing® approach by incorporating perceptual movement practices. Under my supervision, we’ve implemented a structured method focused on sensory exploration and body awareness, using elements such as spatial orientation, contralaterality, and awareness of the front and back of the body.
Children and adolescents meet twice a week to engage in carefully guided movement sessions that combine connection-building exercises, playful and personalized activities, and reflective dialogue. This presentation will explore this approach and its observed effects on emotional regulation and cognitive-emotional integration in young individuals.
Rolfing® is a method of structural integration that has brought significant results to many individuals. When working with children and adolescents, this method can be explored and validated through its traditional framework. However, in Brazil, we have also advanced the method through a movement-based approach, which I have been applying with this population.
One of the core teachings of Rolfing® is the importance of therapeutic relationships. In this presentation, I will share the experience of working with a 10-year-old boy diagnosed with autism, who has been gradually building a new relationship with himself and with the world through Rolfing® Movement.
The sessions began once a week. As the boy became familiar with the process, specific motor interactions and dialogic activities helped establish a therapeutic bond. Over time, he began engaging in rudimentary movements, improved his communication, discovered new ways to move, expanded his motor repertoire, and, according to his mother, began to experience more positive social interactions.
