Why Choose The Dr. Ida Rolf Institute?
There is only one place in the world where you can become a Certified Rolfer® and that's the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute®. Graduates of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® become leaders in the field of Structural Integration.
Have your pick of locations. Many large cities have just a handful of qualified licensed Rolfers™, In many areas you will be the sole Rolfer™!
Rolfing and Rolfer are protected trademarks. Graduates of other programs may practice Structural Integration, but they cannot call themselves Rolfers, advertise Rolfing services, or access the global Rolfing® professional community.
Here you will learn the work as it was originally developed, earn the profession's most recognized credential, gain access to the Find a Rolfer directory, and join a global network of practitioners, there is only one place to do that. At the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute you're not just paying for a training program. You're investing in a profession, a credential, a community, and a career that can last a lifetime.

A Certified Rolfer® is a practitioner trained in Rolfing® Structural Integration, a form of bodywork developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf that works with the body's connective tissue (fascia) to improve alignment, movement, posture, and body awareness.
Rather than chasing isolated symptoms, Rolfers™ are trained to see and work with the body as an interconnected whole. Through skilled touch, movement education, and client-centered sessions, Rolfers help people discover new possibilities for comfort, balance, and ease.
For most practitioners, it's deeply meaningful work: the intersection of science, art, touch, and human connection.
The path to certification is open to a wide range of people. Students arrive from many different backgrounds:
What most students share isn't a background. It's a feeling. A pull toward something more purposeful. A sense that the body has more to teach them, and that they want to be the kind of practitioner who can meet people there.
"I was born to be a Rolfer. I believe that in my cells and in my core. I committed to my interviewers that I would do this for the rest of my life. So it has been and so it will continue to be."
— Sharon Sklar, Certified Rolfer® of 40+ Years
You don't need to have your entire career mapped out before you begin. You just need to be willing to find out.
As AI continues to reshape professions, Rolfing® Structural Integration is rooted in something no algorithm can replicate: skilled touch, embodied presence, and the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and client.
AI can support scheduling, marketing, and business tools. It cannot assess a client's structure, respond to tissue, guide movement, or do the hands-on work of a trained Rolfer™.
For people seeking a profession grounded in real human connection, this is it.

Education Overview
The Rolfing® Structural Integration Certification Program is a 731-hour immersive training that prepares you for professional practice as a Certified Rolfer®. The program is structured in three phases, moving from foundational knowledge through to supervised clinical practice.
The curriculum includes:
No prior bodywork training is required. Phase I is designed specifically for students with no formal massage or bodywork background, building foundational knowledge from the ground up.
Students don't just learn techniques. They learn to see, feel, think, and work as Rolfers®.
Training at DIRI isn't theoretical. Before certification, students complete three supervised ten-session series' with community clients in a clinical setting under direct faculty supervision. Students must also complete a final assessment by faculty members before certification is granted.
This structure exists for one reason: so that when you graduate, you're not just familiar with the concepts of Rolfing® Structural Integration. You're ready to practice.

Graduating from DIRI gives you access to things no other Structural Integration program can offer:
✓ The Certified Rolfer® credential and the right to use the Rolfing® and Rolfer® trademarks. Stand out in a crowded wellness industry.
✓ Listing in the official Find a Rolfer® directory, the trusted source clients use to find practitioners around the world
✓ Eligibility for Advanced Rolfing® Certification and Rolf Movement® training
✓ Access to professional membership, leadership opportunities, and faculty development pathways
✓ A global community dedicated to preserving and advancing Dr. Ida Rolf's work
For graduates looking to build a serious practice, the credential isn't just a title. It's the foundation.

Many Certified Rolfers™ are self-employed and build practices that reflect their own goals, schedule, and location. Many enjoy a flexible schedule that is not possible in other fields.
Session fees vary widely based on factors such as geographic market, practitioner experience, specialization, and practice model. Most Rolfers™ are self-employed and set their own prices. New graduates often start with a smaller caseload while building referrals, while established practitioners grow into fuller schedules, higher rates, and steady long-term client relationships.

Rolfing® Structural Integration began with Dr. Ida P. Rolf's understanding of the body as an integrated structural system connected through fascia. Her work continues today through the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® and the global community of Certified Rolfers® she inspired.
When you train at DIRI, you're not learning someone's interpretation of Rolfing®. You're studying the work through the institution founded to preserve, teach, and advance Dr. Rolf's original vision.
This is the official path. There is no other.

Certified Rolfers® practice in a wide range of settings. Some build private practices. Others integrate Rolfing® Structural Integration with massage therapy, movement education, physical rehabilitation, athletics, yoga, or Pilates.
Many Rolfers™ value the independence of the profession, the depth of the client relationships, and the ability to keep learning throughout an entire career.
Some graduates go on to teach, mentor, conduct research, develop continuing education, serve in leadership roles, or help shape the future of Structural Integration.
Your relationship with DIRI doesn't end at graduation. It deepens.
It's a fair question, and it deserves a straight answer.
If your goal is to learn a handful of Structural Integration techniques to add to an existing massage practice, other programs may exist at a lower cost. For some practitioners, that may be enough.
But if your goal is to practice Structural Integration as your main profession, to be a Certified Rolfer®, to use the Rolfing® name, to access the Find a Rolfer® directory, to pursue Advanced Rolfing® training, and to join the global Rolfing® professional community, there is only one place to do that.
At DIRI, you're not paying for a training program. You're investing in a profession, a credential, a community, and a career that can last a lifetime.
How long does it take to become a Rolfer™? The Rolfing® Certification Program includes approximately 731 hours of training across three phases. DIRI also offers a 225-hour Rolf Movement® Certification program and a 168-hour Advanced Rolfing® program for graduates who want to continue developing their skills.
Do I need prior bodywork experience to apply? No prior experience is required. The Dr. Ida Rolf Institute welcomes applications from prospective students of all backgrounds, with or without prior experience in bodywork. The admissions team can walk you through the application requirements and what applies to your specific situation.
Is Rolfing® the same as massage? No. Rolfing® Structural Integration is a distinct profession with its own principles, methods, certification, and professional identity. Some massage therapists become Certified Rolfers®, but the training and credential are entirely separate. Rolfing focuses on the body's structure, fascia, movement, and organization rather than relaxation or symptom relief alone.
Can graduates of other Structural Integration programs call themselves Rolfers™? No. Rolfing® and Rolfer™ are federally registered trademarks owned by the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute®. Graduates of other programs may practice Structural Integration, but they cannot call themselves Certified Rolfers® or advertise Rolfing® services. DIRI actively enforces these trademarks.
What does a Certified Rolfer® receive that graduates of other programs do not? Certified Rolfers® receive the right to use the Rolfing® and Rolfer™ trademarks, listing in the official Find a Rolfer® directory, eligibility for Advanced Rolfing® Certification and Rolf Movement® training, access to the global professional community, and the ability to sit for the MBLEx licensing exam in most states for both massage therapists and non-massage therapists.
What clinical experience do students complete before graduation? Students complete three supervised ten-session series’ with outside community clients in a clinical setting under direct faculty supervision, plus a final faculty assessment before certification is granted.
What does a Certified Rolfer® earn? Session fees vary widely based on factors such as geographic market, practitioner experience, specialization, and practice model. Most Certified Rolfers® are self-employed and set their own rates and schedules. In year one, many graduates begin seeing 5 to 15 clients per week while building referrals. By year five, established practitioners often see 15 to 25 or more clients per week with higher rates and a steady flow of referrals.
What career paths are available after certification? Certified Rolfers® build private practices, integrate Rolfing® into multidisciplinary healthcare and athletic settings, teach and mentor, conduct research, serve on boards and committees, and pursue faculty development pathways within DIRI. Only Certified Rolfers® can pursue Advanced Rolfing® Certification, teach within the Rolfing® education system, and serve in certain leadership roles within the profession.
What support does DIRI provide after graduation? Graduation is the beginning of a lifelong professional relationship with the Institute. Certified Rolfers® have access to continuing education, Advanced Rolfing® and Rolf Movement® certification pathways, mentorship, professional resources, peer support, leadership opportunities including board and committee service, and a dedicated membership services staff member available to support practitioners throughout their careers. Graduates are also listed in the Find a Rolfer® directory and receive the SFI Journal, the professional publication of DIRI.
The path to becoming a Certified Rolfer® begins with one step: finding out if this is right for you.
