What Is Rolfing® Structural Integration?

Rolfing® Structural Integration is a time-tested, hands-on approach to improving posture, reducing pain, and enhancing movement. Developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf over 50 years ago, this method works with the body’s fascia, a type of connective tissue that supports and organizes the whole body.  Through this medium, realignment and long-term structural change can be optimized. Dr. Ida Rolf’s foundational insight was that the body functions best when it’s aligned with gravity. By working with fascia—the body’s connective tissue network—Rolfing® SI helps release restrictions that may be limiting function or reinforcing unhealthy patterns.

Rolfing® Structural Integration addresses the body as an interconnected system—setting it apart from many therapeutic modalities that often focus on isolated symptoms or regions. Fascia surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ, forming a web that holds the body together. When this fascial network becomes restricted due to injury, stress, or habitual patterns, it can pull the body out of alignment and create chronic tension or discomfort.

Rolfers™ use strategic touch and movement education to release these restrictions and help the body find a more efficient, balanced relationship with gravity. Sessions are typically one-on-one, hands-on, and tailored to your body’s structure and goals. The result? Improved posture, greater ease of movement, and a deeper sense of embodiment.

Whether you’re managing pain, improving athletic performance, or simply seeking more comfort in your body, Rolfing® SI offers a transformative, research-informed pathway toward lasting change.
